Microphones

Why microphones are indispensable in many conference rooms

Microphones are important components in the recording and transmission of audio signals. The choice of the right microphone depends crucially on the respective room situation. Coupling should be avoided and the difference between useful sound and disturbing background noise should be kept as high as possible.

Large meeting rooms and conference rooms pose particular challenges for acoustics. Microphones are almost indispensable to ensure that all participants understand the speaker clearly. These guarantee that the speaker's voice can be heard clearly at all times and that the audio and speech quality remains at a consistently high level.

What you should look out for when choosing the right microphone

The right microphone is important to ensure that every word spoken by the participants is clearly understood. Unfortunately, the saying „one size fits all“ does not apply to microphones. We'll tell you which criteria you should definitely pay attention to when choosing a microphone:

  • Room size: Is the microphone intended for a small room or do you want to provide sound for large rooms?
  • Number of participants: Is the meeting for a small group of people or do you want to speak in front of a large crowd?
  • Number of speakers: Is it primarily just one person speaking during the meeting, as is the case in seminars and lectures, for example, or is it a discussion group that engages in lively exchanges?
  • Type of presentation: Is it a lecture, a panel discussion or a video conference? Will the speaker remain at the lectern or should they be able to move freely around the room?
  • Seating arrangement: Are all participants at a large round table or are they spread across several tables? Does the speaker give a frontal presentation or is he part of the group?
  • Other technology: Will loudspeakers or complex sound systems be used or is no further audio technology planned?

The right microphone for every situation

Depending on the conference situation, different types of microphones are suitable in different ways. ComPeri offers you a wide range of microphone systems, so that we are guaranteed to have the right product for your individual wishes and needs in our range.

We have put together a selection of our most popular microphones for you:

Handheld microphones

Handheld microphones are specially designed for speech and vocals on the stage. They are available with or without a cable, with the wireless version guaranteeing maximum freedom of movement. While a handheld microphone is often rather inconvenient for the speaker, as they always have to carry the microphone around with them, it is particularly suitable for events where interaction with the audience is of central importance. For example, handheld microphones are ideal for Q&A sessions where the microphone is passed around depending on who wants to ask a question.

Desk microphones

Desk microphones are stationary applications where the speaker gives a presentation at a table in front of a group. This makes lectern microphones ideal for seminars and other teaching events.

Among desk microphones, gooseneck microphones are particularly popular. These consist of a microphone element that is mounted on a flexible gooseneck stem and can be individually aligned. Gooseneck microphones bring the microphone closer to the mouth and offer the advantage that they cannot be accidentally covered by papers. However, there are other desk microphones that are based on other shapes and technologies.

Headband and lapel microphones

Headband microphones are lightweight and portable microphones that are attached to the head with the help of earbuds. The microphone can be easily adjusted to the right position using the movable headband.

Clip-on microphones (also: lavalier microphones) are small microphones that are attached to the speaker's clothing with a clip. They are very inconspicuous and therefore ideal for all situations in which the technology should be as unobtrusive as possible. Both clip-on microphones and headset microphones offer the advantage that the speaker has both hands free during their presentation and can move around the room without restriction.

Boundary flat microphones

Boundary microphones get their name from the fact that they connect to boundary surfaces, for example to walls and ceilings or on the conference table. However, they can even be positioned on the floor.

This offers two advantages: On the one hand, the room component and sound reflection are automatically absorbed from the recording with a boundary microphone. The result is a very natural sound without reverberation and echo. On the other hand, boundary microphones allow free movement within the room without distortion occurring within the recording. This makes boundary microphones suitable for business and conference situations as well as for theater and stage shows.

Ceiling microphones

Ceiling microphones are - as the name suggests - mounted on the ceiling of the conference room. The devices can pick up every voice in the room with pinpoint accuracy and reproduce it in the best audio quality. The voice quality remains constant even if individual participants stand up or move around. Ceiling microphones are suitable for a wide variety of conference situations in rooms of all types and sizes. Even in video conferences, ceiling microphones cut a fine figure and ensure flawless audio reproduction.

Array microphones

Array microphones are characterized by one feature in particular: They are almost invisible. This is particularly useful in situations where you want to do without visible microphones or where several speakers are present. This is where classic ceiling microphones quickly reach their limits, as several microphones that are spatially separated from each other can interfere with each other in an unpleasant way.

Array microphones are also usually positioned on the ceiling, sometimes in the middle of the conference table. These are made up of many small separate microphone capsules, whose signals are summed up via a digital signal processor. Array microphones can also rotate around their own axis and thus align themselves precisely with the person who is currently speaking. This function ensures razor-sharp recordings with unparalleled audio quality.
