What you should look out for when choosing a projector

For a presentation to succeed, the right technical equipment is needed to reach the participants, visualize information and illustrate content. The projector is the centerpiece of presentation technology . Projectors allow you to project images and videos from digital sources such as laptops, tablets and other media devices onto a screen in all possible formats. However, before you buy a projector, you should be aware of the different criteria for your area of application. We will be happy to help you with your selection and know what is important when using projectors in different industries.

We have summarized the most important criteria for you:

  • Application area: Are you looking for a business projector for presentations in conference and meeting rooms, for educational institutions such as the classroom or auditorium or for a projector as a home cinema system in the living room?
  • Intended use: The presentation of texts, diagrams and other files requires detailed images and correspondingly powerful projectors as well as additional lighting installations. For home cinema projectors, high-contrast images are much more important in order to create deep blacks.
  • Room size: Is the projector intended for a small room or do you want to play large images and videos? Mobile projectors offer the possibility of use in different rooms.
  • Brightness: The lighting conditions in the room and dimming options determine how bright your projector needs to be. The brighter the ambient light, the brighter the luminosity of the device must be.
  • Number of people: The power level should be adjusted to the number of people in the room. The larger the number of people, the larger the image and thus the power of the projector must be.
  • Other technology: Should the projector be integrated into the existing media technology? Do you need additional media technology and networking of all technical components?

The right projector for every situation

Modern projectors are quiet, lightweight and project images in brilliant resolution, with a large image diagonal and at the same time incredibly sharp and color-accurate image quality. But not all projectors are the same. Depending on the intended use, there are different technologies that are best suited to the respective room conditions. From small mobile projectors üover permanently installed high-performance projectors for conference rooms and hörs&aum;le to beamers for home entertainment– we at ComPeri have the right projector for every room situation.

LED projector

The use of LED light-emitting diodes as light sources makes LED projectors particularly energy-efficient and durable. This also has the advantage that the projector hardly needs to be cooled and the ventilation noise is significantly lower compared to other projectors. LED projectors are ideal for companies and educational institutions such as schools and universities - and are particularly popular as mobile projectors for flexible use. As LED projectors have a lower luminous intensity compared to other technologies, they are only recommended for rooms that can be darkened well.

Laser projectors

Laser projectors are becoming increasingly popular in companies and educational institutions. Thanks to the innovative laser diodes, the projectors are particularly durable and energy-efficient. In contrast to the LED version, laser projectors impress with their high light output. Laser projectors are therefore ideal for bright, light-flooded rooms that cannot be darkened.

LCD projector

With LCD technology (Liquid Crystal Display), the light from the projection lamp is split into the three primary colors (red, green, blue) and combined by three individual screens to form a color image - comparable to the process of a slide projector. This produces particularly vivid and natural colors, making LCD projectors particularly suitable for presentation technology and for the projection of texts and diagrams in Full HD quality. Because the image is composed of individual images in the primary colors, LCD projectors have the disadvantage that color streaks occur with fast-moving images, the so-called rainbow effect.</p

DLP projector

In the DLP (Digital Light Processing) process, the image is generated using millions of small mirrors that project the beamer light onto the screen. This creates a particularly high-contrast image without a rainbow effect, making DLP projectors particularly suitable for home cinemas. Compared to other technologies such as LCD, DLP projectors can achieve an excellent, high contrast ratio of up to 4000:1.

LCoS Beamer

LCoS beamers (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) are based on LCD and DLP technology and combine the best of both worlds. The fact that the light is not directed through a panel but reflected creates a high pixel density. As a result, the images achieve a higher resolution. Neither a fly screen nor a rainbow effect is created. LCoS technology is mainly used in the latest 3D beamers, as the technology's circuitry is faster. The resolution goes up to 4K.
